This guide covers the basics of installing the template into WordPress.
Downloading the necessary files
To install the template, you only need one file:-
- SolarSentinel Template (rt_solarsentinel_wp-(version).zip) – This file is the template package you will use to install your template into WordPress.
There are other files that you may wish to download that accompany the release, but are not required for the template to work.
- SolarSentinel Sample Content (rt_solarsentinel_wp-sample-(version).zip) – This file contains XML file with sample posts, comments etc. and the “wp-content” directory with all images used in our sample content.
- SolarSentinel Source PNG(s) (rt_solarsentinel_wp-sources-(version).zip) – This contains all the Adobe Fireworks PNG source files for the template, and if applicable, the logo font.
Method 1 – Using the Wordpress installer
- Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
- In the left menu sidebar, go to Appearance → Add New Themes → Upload
- Select the Choose File button
- Locate the rt_solarsentinel_wp-(version).zip file on your computer
- Click Install Now
- On the post-install page (with the template name, description and thumbnail), select Activate
- SolarSentinel will now be installed
Method 2 – Using FTP
- Extract rt_solarsentinel_wp-(version).zip
- Load your FTP client, such as FileZilla
- Upload the rt_solarsentinel_wp-(version) folder to the http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/themes
- Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
- In the left menu sidebar, go to Appearance → Themes
- Click Activate underneath the SolarSentinel section
Importing Sample Content
This allows you to copy over the data from the Demo so that you can match our setup
- Extract rt_solarsentinel_wp-sample-(version).zip
- Upload the “wp-content” folder using your favorite FTP client to your WordPress main directory.
- Locate sample_data.xml
- Login into the WordPress administrator dashboard (http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/)
- In the left menu sidebar, go to Tools → Import
- Select WordPress from the numerous options
- Click Choose File and select sample_data.xml from your computer
- Click Upload File and Import
- Now you can create a new author for sample posts or map it to existing user.
- Press the Submit button and let the Wordpress do the rest.
Please DO NOT check the “Download Attachments” tickbox as it won’t download anything. All images from our demo are provided in a zip package with sample content.
